January 17, 2021

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we fished last Friday, and the fishing picked up a bit but it was still off from what we were hoping for. There was a lot of bait in the water however the bite just never turned on. While there was a definite increase to the number of fish put on ice we are still waiting on the big hit.

We will continue to fish whenever we can, based on the weather, so stay tuned and we will post new trips as the weather allows.

We had a great response to our first live seminar last week, and look forward to more of them throughout the winter. Don’t forget, these are for you- please let us know what you’d like to hear about so we can be sure to answer your questions!

As always, stay tuned to our Facebook page and website for updates and details. We look forward to seeing you soon!

January 10, 2021

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we didn’t quite get what we were hoping for on our trips this week. Our first trip of 2021, on Friday, never materialized into what we were hoping for. We had a good pick of cod, up to 20 pounds, but never quite got the big hit we were waiting for. Some ling and bergals rounded out the catch. Sunday we went out and had beautiful weather for a January day, but again, not the fishing we were hoping for. A handful of cod, and again some ling and bergals to round out the day. We’re hoping for better days to come!

We’ll post trips based on the weather, so stay tuned and we will let you know when we’re heading out. We’ll also be starting our Black Hawk seminar series soon, with live seminars on Facebook. You’ll be able to view them later on YouTube and in our weekly email as well. Our first will be on Thursday, January 14 at 7:00 pm.

As always, stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for details and updates. Happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you soon!

January 3, 2021

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that as you know, we always try and report things as honestly as possible- the good and the bad. Unfortunately, last week wasn’t a good one. We only got out on Wednesday, due to the windy conditions the rest of the week. We had strong tides coming off the full moon, which made for less than ideal conditions and fish that were uncooperative. It was a long, slow grind without the results we were hoping for, but that’s why it is called fishing and not catching! We are eager to get back out on the water with better conditions and results.

We will fish as often as we can, weather permitting, but will only post trips a few days ahead of time from now on, so we can get the most up to date weather report first. Be sure to check our Facebook page and website, as well as our email list, for updated trip schedules.

Here at the Black Hawk, we like to make sure we’re doing what you want! After all, we’re here because of you! So, you can help! How? Fill out this brief survey about our upcoming seminars with Capt. Greg & CJ, and our upcoming 2021 fishing season. It’s completely optional, of course, but we’d love your feedback! We read every one, so please, let us know your thoughts! Thanks! We would like to wish everyone a happy New Year, and we look forward to seeing you in 2021!

December 27, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office hopes that everyone had a Merry
Christmas! Unfortunately, we only got out once last week due to the
windy conditions the rest of the week. We fished last Sunday, and
while it was a beautiful day on the water, the fishing wasn’t as great
as what we’d hoped for. We had a good number of cod, but the seabass
and porgies appear to have moved on. There were a good mix of bergals
with the cod, as well as a few ling.

We’re hoping to get out as much as possible when the weather allows.
Check the website and Facebook page for updates.

We’d like to wish everyone a very happy New Year! Here’s to a happy
and healthy 2021!

December 20, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had some great trips in the last week!  Lots of green codfish, which we’re hoping is a good sign of things to come.   Fish to 25 pounds and some beautiful weather to go with it! Winter fishing doesn’t get much better!

The seabass and porgies appear to have moved on, we had a few here and there, but nothing like in recent weeks.  After the snowstorm, Saturday’s trip showed decent codfishing with bergals and ling mixed in.

The boat is out right now, Sunday, so be sure to check out Facebook page and website for reports later.

As always, this time of year our schedule is dictated by the wind.  We’ll get out as much as possible when we’re able.

The Black Hawk family would like to wish all of our customers a very Merry Christmas! Thank you for all your support this year!

As usual, we will continue to post new trips on Monday evenings around
8pm.  Going forward, trips will be posted for Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays.  We will post weekday trips based on the weather closer to
the date of the trip.  Check our Facebook page and website for updates
and reports.

December 14, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had a good week of
winter fishing! After losing last weekend due to the weather, we were
able to get out several days in the last week. Monday’s trip, after
the strong winds of the weekend, was a bit tough. The water was still
dirty and the fishing was a bit of a grind, but those who stuck it out
went home with good numbers of seabass, a few cod, and even some jumbo
porgies. Tuesday we headed out with a private charter, but the actual
wind was very different than the forecast, and the rough seas made for
a tougher trip. Wednesday was better, with some limits of seabass and
some cod and ling in the mix.

On Thursday, we moved over to our winter dock in Noank at the Noank
Shipyard, and sailed from there Friday and Saturday. Friday had great
seabass fishing, with limits all over the boat, as well as a good mix
of cod and jumbo porgies. Saturday was the best cod fishing we’ve
seen yet this year! Solid fishing seabass, ling, bergals, and even a
pair of weakfish. Overall, a great day on the water!

With this winter storm coming, we’re losing much of the week, but the
weekend looks nice, so we hope to get out then. As always, this time
of year our schedule is dictated by the wind. We’ll get out as much
as possible when we’re able.

As usual, we will continue to post new trips on Monday evenings around
8pm. Going forward, trips will be posted for Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays. We will post weekday trips based on the weather closer to
the date of the trip. Check our Facebook page and website for updates
and reports.

December 7, 2020

Last Sunday was absolutely beautiful weather day on the water- you can’t buy fishing weather this nice in November! And to make it even better the sea bass catching was lights out! We filled up with an easy boat limit of knotheads with fish up to 5lbs! There were plenty of scup to go around as well and another nice mix of cod making for a great mixed bag trip on the Black Hawk!

As usual, we will continue to post new trips on Monday evenings around
8pm. Going forward, trips will be posted for Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays. We will post weekday trips based on the weather closer to
the date of the trip. Check our Facebook page and website for updates
and reports.

November 30, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports we had another week of
great fishing on the Black Hawk. We lost last Monday due to the
weather, but were able to get out Tuesday and Wednesday for our combo
trips. Tuesday’s trip was phenomenal, with limits of seabass and lots
of blackfish, with some porgies and cod in the mix as well. Simply
fantastic fall fishing. Wednesday was a little tougher with some wind
to contend with, but those who stuck it out were able to get a good
number of fish. Friday was more of the same, with some wind but still
good fishing. Saturday was a beautiful weather day with a boat limit
of seabass, a good number of porgies, and some beautiful cod in the
mix.

As usual, we will continue to post new trips on Monday evenings around
8pm. Going forward, trips will be posted for Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays. We will post weekday trips based on the weather closer to
the date of the trip. Check our Facebook page and website for updates
and reports.

November 22, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another week of great
fishing, when we could get out. We unfortunately lost a few days due
to the wind, but that’s expected at this time of year. When we were
able to get out, the fishing was excellent. Our combo trips showed
good numbers of blackfish, as well as continued excellent seabass and
cod fishing. Our Saturday bottom fishing trip had limits of seabass,
as well as a good mix of porgies and cod to fill up the coolers.

The Black Hawk family would like to wish everyone a happy and healthy
Thanksgiving. Even though things are certainly different now than
most years, we continue to be thankful for you, our Black Hawk
customers, and all of your support throughout these difficult times.
We’ve said it before, and will continue to say, that we have the best
customers around- you’re all part of the Black Hawk family and we’re
so glad you’re here.

As usual, we will continue to post new trips on Monday evenings around
8pm. Going forward, trips will be posted for Fridays, Saturdays and
Sundays. We will post weekday trips based on the weather closer to
the date of the trip. Check our Facebook page and website for updates
and reports.
