Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another week of excellent fishing. It seemed like as soon as you dropped down to the bottom, you had ’em! Bait, drop, catch and repeat! Early in the week we had limits of porgies all around with a good mix of seabass in there as well. Later in the week, though, the seabass fishing was incredible! Boat limits of huge seabass, with limits of jumbo porgies as well. Simply sensational fishing!

Our night trips were a little trickier. Wednesday night had good action, but only a few keepers in the slot limit. Thursday night, with the incredible lightning storm we had, just wasn’t a good night. Friday night’s private charter was better, with lots of action and a few keepers in the slot limit.

We’re looking forward to some more Black Hawk and the Community sunset cruises/seal watches in the next few weeks, and another family trip as well. Stay tuned as dates will be posted soon. Check our Facebook page for daily reports and schedule updates. As always, we post new trips on our website on Monday evenings for the next available week. All trips continue to be by reservation only to follow social distancing guidelines. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports more of the same- excellent fishing, with jumbo porgies and seabass coming over the rails. Beautiful weather, fantastic fishing- what could be better? Now’s the time to fill the freezer!

Last Monday evening, we had our “Family Fishing Trip” for kids and families to get out on the water. Everyone had a blast, and we’ve had lots of requests for another trip. Stay tuned, we’ll get the dates announced shortly!

We had some After Work Special trips last week as well. These trips were a bit of a combo, doing some bottom fishing for porgies and seabass and then some fishing for blues and bass when the time was right. And boy, was it right! Huge blues were attacking the diamond jigs for the night. Our pool winner was a monster 16 pound bluefish. Those who saw the posts on Facebook have already been calling for more of these trips- stay tuned and we’ll be sure to post some soon!

We’ve got our Black Hawk and the Community Seal Watch tomorrow (Monday) night, and we’ll be adding more of those trips soon too. As always, check our website and Facebook for details and updates. All trips continue to be by reservation only, with new trips posted on Monday evenings, so grab your spots on board as soon as you see them because they are filling fast. We look forward to seeing you soon!

July 12, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another week of great fishing!  Sounds like more of the same, but the fishing has been fantastic.  Jumbo porgies, big seabass, and even a few nice fluke rounded out the mix this week.  Due to the windy conditions over the weekend, we did fish in some secondary spots, but still found a pile of fish and loaded up with limits all around the boat.

Our night trips on Wednesday and Thursday were great as well.  Wednesday we had lots of big fish that were released, and several keepers within the slot limit.  Thursday was a bit different- we started off with loads of big fish which we released, then ended up finding lots of shorts- from one extreme to the other!  Again, we ended up with a handful of keepers within the slot limit, and it was a great night on the water!

We’re really looking forward to our family trip on Monday evening, where we’ll get some kids out on the boat to get out there and catch!  We’ve also added some After Work Special trips for Thursday and Friday.  We look forward to seeing you then!

We also have our Black Hawk and the Community Sunset Seal Watch coming up on July 20th.  We’re trying to raise some funds for the non-profit groups we normally work with on our sunset cruises, so all proceeds will go to local non-profit groups.  We hope to do several of these trips throughout the summer to help those groups that are struggling due to the covid pandemic.

As always, check our website and Facebook for details and updates.  All trips continue to be by reservation only, with new trips posted on Monday evenings, so grab your spots on board as soon as you see them because they are filling fast.  We look forward to seeing you soon!

July 5, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was another excellent week of fishing. The porgy bite continues to be red hot, with near daily limits of jumbo scup! The sea bass bite remains solid and is improving every trip- most days, we’re loading plenty of nice knotheads into the coolers. We had some young kids on the boat over the last week, and they had a great time reeling in the porgies and seabass- we always love seeing kids on the boat. Take a kid fishing!

We’ve got some night bass trips this week, so stay tuned for reports from those trips. We only have a few dates still available for charters in July, and August is filling quickly too, so be sure to get your date on the calendar before we’re sold out.

All trips continue to be by reservation only, and we’re posting tickets online about 2 weeks ahead of time. They are filling very quickly online, so be sure to grab your tickets as soon as you see the date you’d like posted. As always, check the website and Facebook for details and information. We hope to see you soon!

June 28, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was a week of incredible fishing!  It started off with excellent porgy fishing, then the seabass started on Tuesday.  We had to work more for the seabass, but overall had good numbers of them throughout the week.  Boat limits of porgies nearly every day, many limits of seabass- with beautiful weather, excellent fishing- who could ask for anything more? Special congrats go out to some of the kids we had out this week- Wednesday night’s private charter was a family who was out to celebrate a birthday- and did not disappoint.  The young birthday boy caught bluefish, and the rest of the group rounded it out with porgies, seabass, blues, a striped bass, and even a codfish.  What a night!  Book your charter with us soon, dates are filling very quickly!

Our night trips started this week too and showed some fantastic fishing!   Thursday night’s trip in particular showed excellent fishing, with two fish at 52 pounds, several in the 40 pound range, and many in the 30 pound range.  Of course, the big fish were released and only fish within the slot limit were kept.  Friday’s night private charter also had monster fish and great weather, making for an excellent trip.  We’ll be adding more night trips in the coming weeks, but they are sure to fill up quickly, so be sure to follow our site and grab your tickets as soon as you see them posted.

We’ve got some After Work Special trips this week, and will be adding more in the coming weeks.  We hope to see you on one of them soon!

As usual, check our website and Facebook page for updates and details. Trips continue to be by reservation only at this time, and are selling quickly.  We know it’s frustrating, but important for your safety and ours that we maintain social distancing.   We know people are frustrated when they can’t get tickets, so we encourage you to get your tickets as early as possible before they sell out.  We are adding as many trips as we can, so stay tuned!  We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 21, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another excellent week of fishing. Once again, we had limits of jumbo size porgies on most trips, with a few fluke, some bluefish, and even a striped bass in the mix. As usual, there were a good number of sea bass in the mix, and those were released unharmed. We’re looking forward to the opening of the seabass season in New York next week so we can keep these beauties!

Our private charter Wednesday night couldn’t have asked for a better night- beautiful weather and great fishing with a great group of people. There was a lot of action as we picked through the short bass for a few keepers, with some bluefish in the mix as well. Charter dates are filling quickly, so be sure to contact the office if you’d like to get your group on the calendar.

Our After Work trips were a little on the slower side, but still had action with some short bass and blues. We’re looking forward to more of these trips as the season goes on. We’ve got some night bass trips coming up next week, so stay tuned for the reports from those trips.

As always, check our website and Facebook page for updates and details. Trips are all by reservation only at this time, and are selling quickly. We know it’s frustrating, but important for your safety and ours that we maintain social distancing. June 14, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports it was a week of great fishing! Our daily porgy trips were overall very good- a few days were a little tougher than others, but overall, we had good numbers of big porgies! Friday was the exception, with the leftover swell from Thursday’s wind and the thick fog, it was the toughest day of the week. Saturday had much better conditions and things seemed to be back to where they were earlier in the week.

Thursday’s after work special was cancelled due to the weather/wind, but Friday’s was a great night! Lots of action, with lots of short bass, a few keepes, and a pool winner of 32 pounds that was released unharmed. We’ll be adding more after work trips in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

We continue to fish every day. As you know, reservations are required because we are limited in the number of passengers we can take while following social distancing rules. Tickets can be purchased in advance on our website. We also have some dates available for private charters, although they are filling up fast. People are realizing that a private charter is a great way to take out your family and close friends and have the whole boat to yourself! Contact the office for more info before the dates fill up.

We plan on adding some special trips soon- some night bass trips, maybe another night bluefishing trip, and some new trips that we have in the works- so as always, stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for updates and info. We look forward to seeing you soon!

June 7, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it’s great to be back out there fishing! We had a week of great trips on the porgy grounds, and a fantastic night bluefishing trip as well. Our daily porgy trips showed excellent fishing, with limits of porgies all around. Some seabass, which were all released unharmed, a few bluefish, and a few fluke rounded out the coolers.

Thursday’s night bluefishing trip was nothing short of phenomenal. It was an all out bluefish blitz, with a full boat limit of jumbo blues. We even had a nice bass to win the pool. The weather was beautiful, the fishing was excellent- what more could you ask for?

We continue to fish every day. As you know, reservations are required because we are limited to only 23 passengers, following social distancing rules. Tickets can be purchased in advance on our website. We also have some dates available for private charters, although they are filling up fast. People are realizing that a private charter is a great way to take out your family and close friends and have the whole boat to yourself! Contact the office for more info before the dates fill up.

May 31, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office is thrilled to announce that we’re ready to fish!  We’re excited to be getting back out there and on the fish!  This week, we started with our porgy and squid trips. The porgy fishing was about as good as it could have been, with a nice combo of weakfish, bluefish, and even some seabass (which were returned as the season isn’t open yet).  All week showed excellent fishing, with Sunday being the slowest day due to the wind.  It was a steady pick, but not what we had seen earlier in the week.

As you know, we’ll be honest with our reports- and it’s one of those times.  The squid fishing was a little disappointing.  Most trips had most anglers getting 10-12 squid, not bad just nothing like what we saw a few weeks ago or last season. Unfortunately, losing the early part of the season made us miss some excellent squid fishing.

We are currently fishing every day, with one trip daily during the week and two trips daily on the weekends.  All trips are by reservation only, as we are limiting the number of passengers due to social distancing guidelines.  Tickets can be purchased in advance on our website.  We also have dates available for private charters- email Heather for details. As always, check our website ad Facebook page for details and updates.

May 24, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares that as many of you know, we’re still waiting for the okay to fish. Rest assured, we’ve been working hard behind the scenes to get that number changed to something that more accurately reflects the size of the boat and the number of people we can safely take while following social distancing protocols. As soon as we get the ok, we’ll be heading out, with limited numbers of passengers and reservations required. Stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for updates.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon and can’t wait to get out there!

May 17, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares this week’s report:

As many of you saw on Facebook, Capt. Greg, Capt. Matt, CJ & a few other crew members headed out on two trips this week for some exploration. They headed out on a porgy trip and a squid trip, and had great results on both trips. We can’t wait to get you out there with us!

We are planning on starting soon- as always, stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for updates. Of course, we will be following all social distancing and safety guidelines.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. In the meantime, continue to check out our Facebook page- we’ll continue to post some great old videos and photos, as well as live updates and info.

Stay safe and we’ll see everyone soon!

While our regular report is the same as the past…we can’t wait to get out there- we do have a slightly different report this week. As many of you saw on Facebook, CJ & Capt. Matt, along with some other crew members, headed out for an exploratory porgy trip. The fishing was excellent and we’re looking forward to getting out there soon.

We are planning on starting our season very soon- stay tuned and we will post exact dates as soon as we have them, along with the changes we’ll be making to keep in line with social distancing and safety guidelines.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. In the meantime, continue to check out our Facebook page- we’ll continue to post some great old videos and photos, as well as live updates and info.

Stay safe and we’ll see everyone soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office has pretty much the same report as last week….and the week before….and the week before that. We know everyone wants to get out there- the phone calls and emails just keep coming in. We are excited to get out there too, and believe us, as soon as we’re able we’ll be out there!

In other news, many of you may have heard of the sad news from the Mijoy. Capt. Paul Brockett, the patriarch of the sportfishing industry in Connecticut, passed away last week. He will be missed by all, and we ask that you join us in keeping the Mijoy family in your thoughts during this difficult time.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon. In the meantime, continue to check out our Facebook page- we’ll continue to post some great old videos and photos, as well as live updates and info.

Stay safe and we’ll see everyone soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we’re getting everything ready for a great season. When we will start is anybody’s guess, at this point, but we’ll be ready when the time comes.

As always, check out our Facebook page for details and updates. Last week we posted a great video of Capt. Greg from the 80’s- we’ll be posting a “new” video this week too. Check it out!

Stay safe and we’ll see everyone soon!

April 5, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that like last week, we’re continuing to get the boat ready for the season. As for when we’ll start, that’s just a waiting game. As soon as we can, we’ll get back out there.

Many of you have seen that we’re posting some new ‘old’ videos on our Facebook page and in our weekly email. The first few were footage from when Capt. Greg caught his great white shark back in 1983. Be sure to visit our page and see as we post more videos each week. A little entertainment while we’re all stuck at home.

As usual, stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for updates and details on our schedule as they become available. Until then, stay home, stay safe, and we’ll see you soon!

March 29, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we all want to get back out there, but right now, home is the best place to be. We know for your phone calls and emails that you all want to get out there too. We can’t wait to see everyone when this is all over.

In the meantime, stay home, stay safe, and we’ll see everyone soon!

March 22, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we’ve been working on the boat to get ready for the season.  Judging by the number of emails and phone calls, we know you’re all excited to get out there too.  Obviously, we will be monitoring the situation and following safety guidelines, but we are hoping that we’ll be able to get out when the season is scheduled to start in May.    Stay tuned and we will be sure to post more info as it becomes available.  We hope everyone stays healthy and safe!

March 15, 2020

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that as you all know, the Saltwater Fishing Expo in New Jersey was cancelled, as was the Northeast Fishing & Hunting show in Hartford. We’re sorry to miss seeing everyone, but understand under the circumstances.

We did have our New London Maritime Society seal watch on Saturday- it was chilly and windy but we saw loads of seals.

We’re currently doing our annual winter maintenance on the boat (waxing the hull, painting, etc), and look forward to getting back out there as soon as possible. Stay tuned for updates and more info!
