December 29, 2024

Heather and the entire crew of the Black Hawk office first and foremost want to wish everyone a very happy new year! Our season has come to a close and we’re already looking forward to next year!

We were only able to get out a few days in the last week. We headed out to some deep water wrecks, and found some nice seabass, a few cod, some ling, and a few porgies. Some days were better than others, but none were the lights out fishing we had hoped for.

We’d like to thank each and every one of you who fished with us this year- we appreciate all of your support! We look forward to a quick winter and getting back out there next spring!

Stay tuned this winter for some new videos, contests, and more! We look forward to seeing everyone this spring!

December 22, 2024

Heather and the entire crew of the Black Hawk office first and foremost want to wish everyone a very happy holiday season! We were able to get out a few days last week, with Monday being the highlight of the week. Sunday’s trip was good, with lots of seabass, some nice porgies, and some cod in the mix as well. Monday was the day fishermen dream of! It was hard to get the rigs to the bottom before the fish were already climbing on. We had an easy boat limit of the largest monster seabass we have seen in recent years with the biggest fish over 6lbs! And then there was the cod! We had an incredible cod bite with a few fish over the 15lb mark and many more keepers! To top it off we had the bite all to ourselves making for an excellent day of bent rods and full coolers! We headed back out on Wednesday, expecting a similar experience- but it wasn’t quite as good. Still decent numbers of seabass, but with less cod in the mix this time. Unfortunately, the rest of the week was lost due to the weather.

Thanks to all who purchased gift certificates for those fishing enthusiasts! We certainly appreciate everyone who is shopping small and local this year! There are only a few days left for the season- so grab your tickets and join us soon!

December 15, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that Mother Nature didn’t play nice last week, so we didn’t get out much of the week. Early in the week, on Monday when we did get our, we found excellent seabass fishing, with an easy full boat limit. A little slower with the porgies, but some nice cod! Now is the time to join us for some winter fishing and fill the freezer! Who knows how many nice days we’ll have left, so be sure to get out as when you see the weather will cooperate!

As a reminder, we have gift certificates available for holiday gifts for that fishing enthusiast in your life! We certainly appreciate everyone who is shopping small and local this year, and want to remind everyone to support your local small businesses when doing your holiday shopping this year! Your local tackle shops, book stores, toys stores, and specialty shops can all use the support, so be sure to shop local this year!

Tickets are now posted for the remainder of the season (through December 31) so check the weather and join us! We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

December 8, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that even though we lost a few days over the weekend, when we got back out there, we found excellent seabass fishing, with jumbo seabass coming over the rails- some of the biggest fish we’ve seen in years! A good mix of porgies and some nice cod as well! Now is the time to join us for some winter fishing and fill the freezer! Who knows how many nice days we’ll have left, so be sure to get out as when you see the weather will cooperate!

December 1, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we were finally able to get back out there, after what seemed like forever tied to the dock due to the weather! Since we’ve been getting tuna on the bottom fishing trips with just a quick stop at the tuna grounds, we wanted to try a little longer, so we did a quick, last minute tuna trip on Tuesday. We were able to get two nice tuna, one was just under 70 pounds! A great day for our anglers, a first time for many of them! Wednesday’s bottom fishing trip didn’t have any tuna, but did have a good mix of seabass, porgies, and some cod to fill in the coolers. Just in time for Thanksgiving!

After the Thanksgiving holiday, we were able to get out Friday and Saturday, with a good showing of cod, along with seabass and scup. Saturday’s trip was hampered by the wind, so the catching wasn’t quite what we’ve been experiencing. We lost Sunday’s trip due to the weather, but are looking forward to some beautiful days to come!

Thanks to all who participated in our Small Business Saturday gift certificate promotion! We appreciate everyone who is shopping small and local this year, and want to remind everyone to support your local small businesses when doing your holiday shopping this year! Your local tackle shops, book stores, toys stores, and specialty shops can all use the support, so be sure to shop local this year!

November 24, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that while we lost a good chunk of the week, the days we did get out were pretty spectacular! The tuna were around, and we had a few great trips, loading up on seabass and porgies, and a nice bonus of bluefin tuna! We hit the tuna grounds again on the way out and picked up some nice fish- a first time experience for many onboard! Afterwards it was lock and load on the sea bass and porgies! They were flying in over the rails making for an easy boat limit of sea bass and plenty of scup to go around! We also saw a nice mix of codfish and a few green bonita! We rounded out the coolers with a few togs to cap off another awesome mixed bag trip! Wednesday was even more epic, with out of this world sea bass fishing- it was harder to get away from fish then it was to catch them!

Don’t forget about Small Business Saturday! As usual, we will have our gift certificate sale that day, so give us a call to get a deal on a gift certificate to use next year! And don’t forget to support your local small businesses when doing your holiday shopping this year! Your local tackle shops, book stores, toys stores, and specialty shops can all use the support, so be sure to shop local this year!

November 17, 2024

Heather from the office reports that it was a pretty exciting week on the Black Hawk! We lost some trips early in the week due to the weather, and our first trip out after the wind wasn’t quite what we’d hoped. A good number of scup, some blackfish and some cod as well, but not as many seabass as we’d been hoping for. On Thursday, though, after watching the bluefin fly out of the water for the last 2 weeks Capt. Matt and CJ said enough was enough! They put out their spread and many fish tried to eat and after 15 minutes they were doubled up with bluefin tuna up to 30lbs! Everyone went home with the freshest of tuna steaks! We then moved on to a solid bite of blackfish and a mix of scup, seabass and a few codfish! Talk about a mixed bag!

The rest of our trips for the week were good, with limits of seabass, lots of scup, and a nice showing of cod. We look forward to more cod as the season continues.

We have a few more of our 12 hour Block Island blackfish/bottom fishing combo, so grab your tickets and plan on joining us before the blackfish season closes! After that, all trips will be bottom fishing trips, as often as possible when the weather allows.

November 10, 2024

Heather from the office reports that when Mother Nature cooperated, we had some good fishing on the Black Hawk! Overall, we had a good week of fall fishing, with lots of porgies, some nice blackfish and a good showing of seabass!

Tuesday’s blackfish trip showed great blackfishing, with good sized togs coming over the rails and limits all around the boat. Our combo trips had a good showing of blackfish too, with seabass and porgies rounding out the coolers. Friday morning was beautiful before the wind moved in, and unfortunately we lost Saturday’s trip due to the wind.

As a reminder, all of our November weekday trips are our 12 hour Block Island blackfish/bottom fishing combo, so grab your tickets and plan on joining us! As expected, these trips are weather dependent, so you definitely want to get your tickets ahead of time so we can reach you in the event Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.

November 3, 2024

Heather from the office reports we had a good week of fall fishing on the Black Hawk! Lots of porgies, some nice blackfish, a good showing of seabass, and even a few cod to round out the coolers made for a great week of fishing. The seabass fishing was excellent on Tuesday, then the dogfish moved in midweek. We lost our trip on Friday due to the wind, but had a great day on Saturday, with probably the best showing of seabass we’ve had all year! Some nice blackfish in the mix each day, and even a few cod each day too. We’re looking forward to more cod as the season progresses.

Now that it’s November, all of our weekday trips are our 12 hour Block Island blackfish/bottom fishing combo, so grab your tickets and plan on joining us! As expected, these trips are weather dependent, so you definitely want to get your tickets ahead of time so we can reach you in the event Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.

October 27, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that our bluefish trips are done for the season- thanks to everyone who joined us on these trips, and we’re looking forward to more trips next year!

Our combo blackfish/bottom fishing trips this week were good, with some nice keeper blackfish and a good mix of porgies and seabass as well. Some trips had us picking through the short seabass to get our keepers for the coolers, but overall a great week of fall fishing, with some unbelievable weather.

Starting November 1, all of our weekday trips are our 12 hour Block Island blackfish/bottom fishing combo, so grab your tickets and plan on joining us! As expected, these trips are weather dependent, so you definitely want to get your tickets ahead of time so we can reach you in the event Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.

October 20, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that early last week, we once again had a fantastic bluefish trip, with gator blues all day long. Our combo trips early in the week showed more blackfish, which was nice to see, along with loads of porgies and a good number of seabass. If you know anything about the Black Hawk, you know we’re honest- we’ll tell you when it’s good, and when it’s bad. Well, to be honest, Saturday was bad. We spent some extra time and went to several different spots, but it was definitely not one of our better days. Saturday night, on the other hand, was a spectacular night bass trip, with an easy boat limit of slot sized fish, and plenty more released unharmed.

Don’t forget, our weekday trips will have crabs available now, so if you’d like to target some blackfish with the porgies and seabass, come join us!

As always, new tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm throughout the season. We’ve started posting our November Block Island blackfish/bottom fishing combo trips, so plan on joining us soon!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

October 13, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was another week with some up and down fishing. Our weekly bluefish trip was once again spectacular, with big blues coming over the rails all day. Only a few more of these trips left, so come join us! Our bottom fishing trips had to contend with some wind and strong tides this week, so some trips were tougher than others. The highlight of the week was the opening of blackfish season on Thursday, with some nice keepers coming up to help round out the coolers. If our first two trips were any indication of what’s to come, it looks to be a good blackfish season. Don’t forget, our weekday trips will have crabs available now, so if you’d like to target some blackfish with the porgies and seabass, come join us!

We’d like to offer a special thanks to everyone who joined us on Saturday evening for our sunset cruise and seal watch- we were able to raise over $1,500 to send to North Carolina to help the relief efforts from Hurricane Helene. We are honored to be able to help the community in this way- even if it’s a little further than our local community this time. Thank you for all of your support!

As always, new tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm throughout the season. We’ve started posting our November Block Island blackfish/bottom fishing combo trips, so plan on joining us soon!

October 6, 2024

Heather from the office reports that we’re definitely feeling some fall temperatures and getting ready for some more fall fishing here on the Black Hawk! Once again, we had some amazing bluefishing on our bass and blues trip. On our Thursday private charter, we spent part of the trip bottom fishing and part bluefishing- and had some of the best bluefishing we’ve seen all year. Gator blues, with some bass in the mix as well, with an easy boat limit. The bottom fishing was excellent, with a limit of porgies and some nice seabass as well.

Our other bottom fishing trips were up and down- early in the week we had some nice porgy fishing. Friday’s trip was a bit slower, but then it picked up for Saturday. A beautiful day with a great group of anglers and good fishing made for a fantastic fall day!

We’ll be doing a special trip on Saturday night – a seal watch fundraiser, with all the proceeds going toward the Hurricane Helene relief efforts in North Carolina. Please join us!

Check the website for details, and grab your tickets to come join us soon! New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm throughout the season.

September 29, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had a great day on our Block Island trip on Wednesday! The weatherman got it wrong, and it was a beautiful day with a steady bite of jumbo porgies, seabass, and a load of mackerel mixed in too! We’re looking forward to more Block Island trips as the season progresses!

Locally, we had some excellent fishing for bass and blues on our weekly bass/blues trip, as well as on one of our private charters, which did a combo for some bluefishing and some bottom fishing. Our bottom fishing trips were a bit up and down- some days were better than others.

We continue to fish every day, with our bass and blue trips once a week leaving at 7am, and other trips leaving at 6am. Check the website for details, and grab your tickets to come join us soon! New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm throughout the season.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
