September 22, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports it was an interesting week on the Black Hawk. Sunday’s porgy trip showed excellent porgy fishing for anglers of all ages, as we had some youngsters on board who had a blast reeling in the porgies all day long. Monday’s bass and blues trip was another beautiful day, with the fishing alternating between an all out bonanza and a few fish per drift.

As you may have seen in our Facebook videos, we had a few days of golf trips in the middle of the week, so we had a little fishing break for a few days.

When we got back out there, our private charter on Thursday had a great day with a combo trip of blues, porgies and seabass. The end of the week brought some wind, which limited where we could fish, impacting the catch. Our Friday and Saturday trips were slower than we’ve been used to lately. Sunday was better, and we’re hoping when the wind drops off we’ll get back to what we’re used to.

We’re heading to Block Island this week for our first Block Island trip of the year- come join us! We will still have bass and blue trips once a week leaving at 7am, the day varies based on our charter schedule each week. Check the website for details, and grab your tickets to come join us soon! New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm throughout the season.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

September 15, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares that it was another great week of fishing! We had some great bottom fishing trips, with loads of porgies and some nice keeper seabass coming over the rails every day. We even had a few short codfish one day, hopefully indicating more to come as the season moves on. We also had one of our favorite nights of the season- our annual veterans trip. We had a big group of veterans this year, who came to join us for a great evening of fishing and camaraderie. Special thanks to all of the sponsors who helped with the trip, including the North East Saltwater Fishing Club, whose members are instrumental in putting the trip together. We are honored to be able to provide a trip for those who served our country.

Our fluke trip on Thursday was one of the best of the season, with a nice pile of keepers ending up in the coolers. Our bass and blue trips continue to be excellent, with a good showing of blues and a few bass in the mix as well.

As a reminder, in September all bottom fishing trips leave at 6am now, with only one trip on the weekends instead of two.

September 8, 2024

Heather from the office shares that it was a great week of fishing aboard the Black Hawk!

The holiday weekend had some beautiful weather, and our awesome anglers had a great time reeling in the porgies, seabass and blues all weekend long! We had a few keeper bass in the mix as well. During the week, our bottom fishing trips showed limits of porgies around the boat, with some seabass in the mix too. Our fluke trip had to contend with some strong winds and tides, so it wasn’t what we were hoping for, although we did manage to get a handful of nice keepers over the rails.

Our bass and blue trips are on repeat- once again an excellent showing of blues, and a few nice keeper bass as well. What a way to end our After Work Special trips for the season!

As a reminder, in September all bottom fishing trips leave at 6am now, with only one trip on the weekends instead of two. We will still have bass and blue trips once a week leaving at 7am, the day varies based on our charter schedule each week. Check the website for details, and grab your tickets to come join us soon! September 1, 2024

Heather from the office shares that even though summer is coming to an end, the fishing is still hot on the Black Hawk!

Our weekday bottom fishing trips again had loads of jumbo porgies around the boat, and some nice keeper seabass as well. Throw in a few fluke here and there, and it was a great week of fishing! Special congrats to some of our young anglers who were fishing for the first time this week, and had a blast reeling in the porgies all day long!

Our bass and blue trips again showed some spectacular fishing, with huge blues coming over the rails! Anglers were exhausted after reeling in these jumbos all afternoon! Only a few of these After Work Special trips left- be sure to join us!

We’re ready for some fall fishing- our schedule changes in September and all trips leave at 6am now, with only one trip on the weekends instead of two. Check the website for details, and grab your tickets to come join us soon! New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm throughout the season.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

August 25, 2024

Heather from the office shares that we had another great week of August fishing on the Black Hawk!

Our weekday bottom fishing trips had a good showing of porgies and seabass, with loads of jumbo porgies and some nice keeper seabass. Lots of limits of scup throughout the week, with some seabass in there to fill up the coolers as well.

Our afternoon private charters had good fishing as well, with our groups catching an assortment of porgies, seabass, blues and bass on these trips. Always a good time when we have these smaller groups out on the boat with us!

Our Thursday fluke trip, despite unfavorable conditions including a strong moon tide, a steady westerly breeze and a bunch of shorts to pick through, put together a solid catch of keeper fluke. It was a better trip than most lately, but still not the how the fluking should be overall.

We had two excellent sunset cruises this week- one for a private group on Wednesday, and the other our final Black Hawk & the Community trip of the summer season. Both had beautiful sunsets, gorgeous weather, and were absolutely great nights to be out on the water.

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Our September trips are being posted now, and the schedule changes a bit in September, so be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

August 18, 2024

Heather from the office shares that it was again a pretty good week on the Black Hawk!  Summer is moving quickly, it will be fall and back to school before we know it!  We had some great summer fishing this week!

Nice jumbo porgies and some nice seabass coming over the rails on our bottom fishing trips all during the week.  Our After Work Special trip once again showed some great bluefishing, with big blues all night long.  Our fluke trip on Thursday wasn’t what we’d hoped for- a handful of nice fluke, but overall slower than we’d expected or would like.

We had another great sunset cruise on Saturday night! We didn’t see much of a sunset through the clouds, but had a great time nonetheless, and raised money for some great local charities.  Our last cruise is next Saturday, August 24.  Join us!

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years.  Our September trips are being posted now, so be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

August 11, 2024

Heather from the office shares that despite some ups and downs with the weather, overall it was a pretty good week on the Black Hawk!

Our trips earlier in the week were good, with nice porgies and seabass coming over the rail. However once the churned up dirty water from the passing storms made its way in the bite slowed to a pick. Tuesday morning showed better results with the bottom fishing, and Tuesday afternoon’s private charter showed excellent bluefishing. We had many kids on board, and they were sore and tired after reeling in big blues all night long! Our fluke trip on Thursday turned into a combo trip due to the wind, but our awesome anglers had a great time catching bass and blues before we switched over and caught some nice seabass and keeper fluke. Not the nicest weather day, but a good day nonetheless. We lost both trips on Friday, as well as Saturday morning, but our charter on Saturday afternoon was back to normal with the bluefish and some bass in the mix as well.

The weather even cleared up for a beautiful sunset for our Saturday night sunset cruise! Join us for our next sunset cruise on August 17th. These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, and we’re honored to be able to help the community in a meaningful way.

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

August 4, 2024

Heather from the office says that it feels like we’re on repeat….but once again, a great week of bottom fishing. Porgies coming over the rails all day long, with some nice seabass in the mix as well. Another great Saturday afternoon kids trip too.

We had a special trip on Wednesday night, with some scout troops from around the state who came out on a special trip. They brought a car load of food for the food bank, and had a great night catching striped bass, blues, and even a few sea bass! Did you see the report on Channel 8? Check it out! We’re so honored to be able to do these special community trips!

Our fluke trip on Thursday was tough- despite our best efforts, the fluke just didn’t want to cooperate. We were able to get a few nice keepers, and some nice seabass to help fill up the coolers, but it wasn’t what we were hoping for.

We had a special fundraiser cruise with the WARM Center on Saturday night- it was perfect timing, as we were able to get the trip in just before the rain started! It was a beautiful night and we raised funds for a great local organization!
Join us for our next sunset cruise on August 17th. These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, and we’re honored to be able to help the community in a meaningful way.

In other news- we’d like to thank each and every one of our customers, and those who voted in the Best of the Best contest. We are honored to once again be selected as the best charter/party boat- thank you so much for your support! We wouldn’t be here without all of you, the best customers around!

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

July 28, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that another great week of fishing! The porgy action continued to be excellent, with a nice bunch of seabass in the mix as well. Overall, a great week of bottom fishing!

Our fluke trip wasn’t as good, as we had to pick through many shorts to get some keepers. We’re hoping this improves in the coming weeks. We were able to pick up some nice seabass to help fill the coolers.

Again, it’s like we’re on repeat, but the bluefishing remains excellent. Huge blues coming over the rails on our bass/blue trips and our After Work Special trip on Friday.

We had a wonderful sunset cruise on Saturday night, and raised money for some great local organizations. Join us for our next sunset cruise on August 17! These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, so thanks for joining us and helping to help our local community!

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

July 21, 2024

Heather from the office reports that the action continues to be red hot aboard the Black Hawk! We had some great pogy fishing all week, with some nice seabass in the mix as well. We had a great time on our kids trip on Saturday afternoon, with the kids catching porgies all afternoon. Another great kids trip, thanks to everyone who joined us- especially our new friends from Ohio, who made the trip and were happily reeling in the porgies all day!

The bluefishing remains excellent, with anglers exhausted and sore after reeling in the giant bluefish we’ve been catching! We’ll continue to bluefish on our After Work Special trips on Fridays, and our Sunday afternoon trips.

Our “Christmas in July” fireworks cruise on Saturday night for Celebrate East Lyme Day was wonderful! Thanks to all who joined us for the trip! We filled a van with toys, and had four big boxes of books as well. The fireworks were fantastic, and everyone enjoyed a night on the water. Join us for our next sunset cruise on July 27th. These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, and we’re honored to be able to help the community in a meaningful way.

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

July 14, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that while some trips earlier in the week were a little slower than we’d like, the majority of the fishing this week was excellent! Loads of jumbo porgies, some nice seabass in the mix, and even some mackerel on a trip or two. Our Saturday afternoon family fishing trip was fantastic, with a great group of kids and families joining us catching porgies all afternoon. These are some of our favorite trips- let’s get the kids out fishing!

Our bass/blues trips and After Work Special and weekend trips were again excellent. Friday night’s trip started off with the bass, but after a few drifts…the blues moved in, fast and furious! The remainder of the trip was spent with arm weary anglers reeling in big blues! A fantastic night on the water!

Our Sailfest fireworks cruise on Saturday night was beautiful- the rain cleared out just in time for a beautiful night on the water. The fireworks were fantastic, and we collected a van full of diapers for the Riverfront Children’s Center. Join us for our next fireworks cruise for the Niantic fireworks this Saturday. We’ll be back to our sunset cruises on July 27th. These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, and we’re honored to be able to help the community in a meaningful way.

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

July 7, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that while we started off the week strong with the bottom fishing, we then had a couple of days where the fishing was a little slower than we’ve been used to- we had to work to fill the coolers. Those who stuck it out by the rails had a decent catch, while others didn’t have quite as many. By the end of the week and into Sunday morning, the fishing had improved.

Our Saturday afternoon family fishing trip was a great way to kick off these trips for the season! We had a great group of young anglers who enjoyed reeling in the porgies all afternoon. These trips are popular and limited, so be sure to sign up when you see them online.

On the holiday itself, we had a private charter that spent part of the day catching some nice slot sized bass, and the rest of the day with the porgies and seabass. It was a beautiful day with great fishing- what more could you ask for?

Our private night charter on Sunday night had a solid catch of slot limit fish with more overs and shorts than we could count released. Monday’s night bass trip wasn’t quite as good, with a strong tide to contend with, making for a tougher catch. We still had some nice fish, but not what we’d hoped for.

Our bass/blues trips and After Work Special and weekend trips were again excellent, with most trips having a full boat limit of slot sized fish, with more released.

Our Saturday sunset cruise seal watches started this weekend, and while we didn’t quite catch the sunset due to the dense fog, we still had a great time seeing the seals and raising money for several local non-profit organizations. We’ve got fireworks cruises for the next two Saturdays, then our next sunset cruise is July 27. These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, and we’re honored to be able to help the community in a meaningful way.

New tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

July 2, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that the bottom fishing action continues to produce full coolers and limits – simply fantastic fishing. We had some great trips this week and loaded up on the jumbo scup, with some sea bass mixed in as well. The fluke didn’t cooperate on our trip on Thursday, but we had some nice seabass to help fill the coolers. Our bass/blues trips and After Work Specials for the week were again excellent, with most trips having a full boat limit of slot sized fish, with more released. Saturday afternoon had some nice blues in the mix as well.

We’re looking forward to our family trips starting this July- these are our shorter trips geared towards young kids and their families.  We’re looking forward to getting some more kids out on the boat this summer!

Our Saturday sunset cruise seal watches are starting this weekend, and tickets are now available for our fireworks cruises – so grab a ticket and join us!  These trips are all part of our Black Hawk and the Community program, and we’re honored to be able to help the community in a meaningful way.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 23, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that the weather wasn’t the only thing heating up this week!  The fishing was simply fantastic on all of our trips this week.  Our porgy trips showed excellent fishing, with many trips having limits around the boat.  Most of our private charters ended up doing a bit of a combo, with some porgies and some bass, and the fishing for both of those was great as well.

Our bass/blues trips (and After Work Specials) for the week were excellent, with most trips having a full boat limit of slot sized fish, with more released. We even had a few blues show up, making for some extra action on the lines.

Sunday meant the opening of sea bass, and we had some nice keepers coming over the rails.  This will only get better as the season goes on, so plan on joining us soon!

Our family trips start in July, with our shorter trips geared towards young kids and their families.  These trips were extremely popular last year, so grab your tickets when you see them online!

We also have our Saturday sunset cruise seal watches, and our fireworks cruises coming up- lots to look forward to on the Black Hawk this summer!

We’re still booking charters- we have only a few dates left for the entire summer, so grab your date today! Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years.  Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 16, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had a week of charters, and saw some great fishing! Most of the charters did a bit of a combo, spending some time porgy fishing and some time bass and blue fishing. The porgy fishing wasn’t as good as we’d hoped earlier in the week, but then on our porgy trip on Friday, we made some moves and were able to find a pile of ’em! The holiday weekend showed good porgy fishing, with some trips better than others, but overall better than it’s been in the last few weeks.

The bass fishing remains excellent, with limits of slot sized fish coming over the rails. We’re starting to see some more bluefish around as well, making for some nice After Work Special trips.

We’re still booking charters- we have only a few dates left for the summer, so be sure to book your date soon! New Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

In other news, as many of you know, Capt. Brad Glas of the Helcat has decided to sell his boat and retire. We wish him the best and a very relaxing retirement!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 9, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had some great charters on the Black Hawk this week! Our porgy trips showed some ups and downs-earlier in the week the fishing was pretty good, but the end of the week was more of a pick. Our private charters made the best of it and were able to do some bass fishing as well, making for some great days on the water! Our After Work Special trips were once again fantastic, with boat limits of slot sized bass.

We’re still booking charters- we have only a few dates left in July, so be sure to book your date soon!

New Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

June 2, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was a busy week on the Black Hawk, with some ups and downs during the week. Our porgy trips were on the slower side – while there were some piles of fish here and there, it took some work to fill the coolers this week. As of this report, on Sunday afternoon, the porgy fishing was much better than in previous days. Hopefully this continues as the week progresses. Our fluke trip was similar- we started off with some nice keepers, and then there was some tough fishing after that. We switched over and did some bass fishing, and had a full boat limit of slot fish.

The bass fishing was fantastic, and we had a full boat limit of slot fish on our After Work trips and private charters this week.

We’re done with the squid trips for the season. We’re already looking forward to these for next year!

We’re still booking charters, be sure to book your date soon- several dates are sold out, so be sure to get your date on the calendar soon!

New Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

May 26, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was a busy week on the Black Hawk! Our private charter on Wednesday was wonderful, with loads of porgies, a limit of slot sized striped bass, and some bluefish in the mix as well! A great day on the water with a great group!

The first fluke trip of 2024 started off very positive with a 6lb fish in the net and a mix of many other shorts coming over the rail as well and then Mother Nature crashed the party! The rain and thunderstorms took over and shut the fishing down. When it had finally cleared and brightened up we started to pick at mostly shorts with a keeper here and there. This was not the start to the fluke season we were looking for, but it’s only going to get better as the season progresses.

The Memorial Day holiday weekend scup trips on Friday, Saturday and Sunday were more of the same- a slow pick most days, and the fish just did not want to cooperate. Despite the beautiful weather the bite never materialized into what we have been seeing lately. Those who worked at it and stayed at the rail did decent, and we did take home some quality fish. Looking forward to an improvement in the coming week.

Our squid trips were a little picky as well-the action was off and on all night. Those that fished hard were able to put some nice squid on the boat!

We’re adding some extra bass trips this week- Friday and Saturday evenings, and watch the calendar for more. We’re still booking charters, be sure to book your date soon- our popular dates are filling up, so be sure to get your date on the calendar.

New Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

May 19, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had some great fishing on our bass trips this week. Both of our open trips did fantastic, with an easy boat limit both days, and more released unharmed. Our private charter on Tuesday did a bit of a combo for both porgies and striped bass, and were not disappointed! Friday’s porgy trip was lights out action, on one of the best days of the year so far! Our squid trip on Friday night started off as a slow pick in the daylight but as it got dark and the tide let go we had some flurries of single, double, and triple headers coming over the rails for a short window of solid catching before turning back into a pick. Saturday’s porgy trip had to contend with lousy weather, and the fishing was more of a pick than the steady fishing we had on Friday.

We will be adding more bass trips and squid trips soon- watch the calendar, as these trips are often posted with less notice due to the weather and our charter schedule. Speaking of charters, be sure to book your date soon- our popular dates are filling up, so be sure to get your date on the calendar.

New Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

May 12, 2024

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had a good weekend of fishing!

Both Friday and Saturday porgy trips started off a little slow, but picked up as the day went on. Saturday ended with some great fishing, with some limits around the boat, and others close to it. Special thanks to Jessica for joining us for her birthday! We were glad to spend the day with you!

Our Friday night squid trip was also good- these trips are always fun, and the squid did not disappoint! Steady action through the night made for some happy anglers! We’ll be adding more trips soon!

We have added a bass trip for Monday morning, and will be adding more of these as well- watch the calendar, as these trips are often posted with less notice due to the weather and our charter schedule. Speaking of charters, be sure to book your date soon- our popular dates are filling up, so be sure to get your date on the calendar.

New Tickets for each week will be posted online on Monday night at 8pm, just like in past years. Be sure to check out our calendar so you see what’s coming up!
