Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that once again, we had some great bass and blue fishing this week. Our private charter on Wednesday night found the blues, and had a nice mix of bass as well! A beautiful night out on the water! Friday’s After Work Special trip showed more great fishing, with a good number of slot sized fish coming over the rails all night long.

Overall, the porgy fishing showed some improvement from last week, but still not quite what we’d like to see! Hoping for some more improvement in the coming weeks. The highlight of the week was our family trip on Saturday afternoon, when we found a load of porgies and the kids were reeling in all day. A few sea bass in the mix as well, and it was a beautiful day!

Our sunset cruise on Saturday night was wonderful- the sky cleared up just in time for us to get out there and see some seals and a sunset! As always, these trips are part of our Black Hawk and the Community Program, and we thank everyone who joins su so we can help the local community!

As a reminder, our Family Trips go out every Saturday afternoons, be sure to join us for trips that are geared towards families with children. Smaller crowds, shorter trips, and some great family fishing fun! This year, we’ll even have a special surprise on Saturdays for one lucky family- congrats to Chase C, who was our first winner in our “Capt. Scott’s Saturday”. Thanks to Capt. Scott’s Lobster Dock, we’ll be giving away a gift certificate every Saturday to one lucky person on our family trip. Join us and it could be you!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had some great striped bass fishing this week. Our private charter on Friday had just under a full boat limit of slot sized fish, with oversized and undersized fish released. Our After Work Special trip was similar, with some great fishing! Our porgy trips remain slower than we’d like, and we’re hoping for an improvement with some warmer weather heading our way.

Our Thursday fluke trip was great, with a steady pick of keepers and shorts from the first drift to the last! Some anglers had their limit of keepers, and some others were close behind. A wonderful day out on the water!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had a few tougher trips this week. Several of our porgy trips were slower than we’d like, though we worked at it, moved to some new places, and stuck it out as best we could. Sometimes, though, as we know, Mother Nature can be tough to work with.

Our bass and blue trips early in the week were sensational, with lots of bass, and even a few blues in the mix. Some private charters did some porgy fishing as well, which was an added bonus as they picked up some jumbo scup.

We have now started sailing seven days a week, so be sure to check our calendar online and grab a ticket for your trip! We still have a few private charter dates available, and will be adding some special trips in the mix as well, so stay tuned.

Now that the kids are out of school, we can’t wait to see ’em on the boat! Let’s get those kids outside and fishing! We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that once again, there were
some ups and downs this week. The porgy fishing was slow early in the
week, then picked up midweek before slowing down again over the
weekend. We’re looking forward to some improvement soon!

Our bass trips, including our private charters during the week and
After Work Special in the afternoon, were excellent. On both trips,
we had loads of slot fish, with some smaller and bigger fish as well
that were released. We’re looking forward to more of these trips,
plan on joining us!

While our last Calamari Safari squid trip on Sunday night wasn’t the
bucket filling bonanza we have had in the past weeks, we had a lot of
newcomers filling up with plenty of quality squid! Overall not a bad
night for our last trip!

We have a few days left for private charters in June, so be sure to
contact Heather if you’d like to get your date on the calendar. July
and August are also filling up, so reach out soon and grab your date!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that like last week, this week had some ups and downs. We started off the week with our Memorial Day trip, which was a slow pick on the porgies all day. Those who stuck it out on the rail did okay, but not what we’d been hoping for. Later in the week and through the weekend, the porgy fishing was up and down, with some trips better than others. Congrats to 8 year old Keyon who caught the most porgies on the boat on Sunday- and won the pool to top it all off! Great job!

Our bass trips, including our day trip and our After Work Special trip, were excellent. On both trips, we had close to a full boat limit of slot sized fish. We had some smaller and bigger fish as well that were released. We’re looking forward to more of these trips, plan on joining us!

Our Calamari Safari squid trip on Sunday night was excellent. We’re heading out again this Sunday night (June 1), check our website for a report.

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that this week had some ups and downs. We started off our week with one of our favorite trips of the year, the VIP (Visually Impaired Persons) trip with several local Lions Clubs. They had a great time reeling in the porgies all day long! We look forward to this special trip every year!

Later in the week, we had some private charters and porgy trips that showed excellent fishing. Nice porgies, some weakfish mixed in, and some striped bass as well. We lost our trip on Thursday due to the weather, and Friday and Saturday were still dealing with the after-effects of the storm. The fishing was slower those two days, but by Sunday it was starting to pick up again.

Our Calamari Safari squid trip started off a little slow on Monday night, but started to pick up once the wind dropped out. Saturday night’s trip was fantastic, with doubles and even triples coming over the rail. Some anglers were working on filling their second bucker! We’re still hoping for a few more trips before this short season ends. If you’d like to catch ’em, be sure to grab your spot soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another week of great spring fishing!  Our private charter porgy trips showed excellent fishing, and we even had some nice weakfish in the mix on Friday!  The weekend again had great scup fishing!  Saturday we had scout Troop 3 join us, and they had a blast reeling in the porgies and filling the coolers.  It was great to see so many kids out there!

Our Calamari Safari squid trip on Friday night was out of this world!  The boat was covered in ink from start to finish, and happy customers left with full buckets and bags.  Saturday night was hampered by the weather, and not as good as we were hoping for.  We’re looking forward to a few more trips before this short season ends.  If you’d like to catch ’em, be sure to grab your spot soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports we had a good week of fishing! Our weekend porgy trips were great, with loads of porgies coming over the rails and into the coolers. We had several kids on the boat this weekend- it’s always great to see kids out there! Take a kid fishing!

Our Calamari Safari squid trips got off to a great start on Saturday night. It was a beautiful night with lots of action. Thanks to everyone who joined us- this is a short season, so if you’d like to catch ’em, be sure to grab your spot soon!

Our first “After Work Special” of the season wasn’t quite all we’d hoped. While we did have some nice slots sized bass, it wasn’t quite the action we’d be hoping for. As the weather warms up it should get better and better We’ll be posting more of these trips soon, so grab your tickets when you see them online!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was great to get out there this week for the first trips of the season! Friday’s trip, the first of the season, was a great first day! We anchored up and picked away the entire trip- a one drop stop! Some produced limits of 30 fish and others followed behind. Having the right rig made a big difference with the delicate bite. We tie our rigs on board the boat, so please ask us- we want you to catch! Saturday was similar, a beautiful day with calm seas and a steady pick all day long. Sunday was the best day of the weekend- it started off like the past few days, but then we made a move and landed on a heap of porgies, so we filled the coolers in no time. Many anglers had an easy limit, with others close behind. Everyone had a great day! The fishing should just get better and better, so plan on joining us soon. We can’t wait to get back out there!

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares that we are ready to go! The boat is ready and we can’t wait to start fishing! Friday, May 2 will be our first trip- come join us! As usual, we’ll post our new trips every Monday night at 8:00 pm, a few weeks ahead of time. We can’t wait to see everyone!

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares that we are back! We’re finally back to our home dock in Niantic and ready to go! We can’t wait to get out there and go fishing! We’ll be posting our new trips in the next few days, and then every Monday night at 8:00 pm, just like normal. We can’t wait to see everyone!

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares that it was another quiet week for the Black Hawk crew- the boat is still down at Derecktor’s shipyard, where it will be for the next several weeks.

Heather from the Black Hawk office shares that it was a quiet week for the Black Hawk crew- the boat is still down at Derecktor’s shipyard, where it will be for the next several weeks.

The crew has still been doing some ice fishing and clamming, and working on some new ideas for the 2025 season. We’ll have another Talkin’ Tackle video soon, so if you’ve got questions or want us to talk about anything specific, let us know!

Also, don’t forget about our contest- take a photo with your catch and your Black Hawk gear (shirt, hat, sticker, etc) and share the photo with us, and you’ll be entered to win some great Black Hawk prizes! Only a few weeks left to send us your photos!

The Black Hawk would like to offer a special congratulations to Jacoby, a young angler who has fished with us several times. He was recently named Connecticut’s 2024 Youth Male Marine Fisherman of the Year- and we could not be prouder of him! We are thrilled that some of his trophy catches were on the Black Hawk, and can’t wait to see what he catches this year! Congrats Jacoby!!
