Capt. Greg from the Black Hawk reports another week of excellent fishing. The porgy fishing has been nothing short of spectacular, with most customers easily getting their limit. More and more seabass are piling into the area as well, and the seabass fishing is getting better all the time. There have also been some fluke and triggerfish in the mix. The weather threw us a bad turn, causing us to lose both trips on Sunday. Looking forward to better weather later in the week.

The night bass fishing has been excellent, with nice fish to 45 pounds. We’ll be posting more night trips soon, so stay tuned. The bluefishing is still not great- a few more fish came in around the Montauk area, hopefully they will become more plentiful locally. We’ll see what this wind does, it could change the whole scenario.

Heather from the office reports that we had another great “Christmas in July” trip. We had a boatload of people who joined us to watch the fireworks, and each one brought a toy and a book for our collections. These will be distributed to local children during the holiday season. We’re looking forward to our great sunset cruises, starting this Saturday night. Each of these is a fundraiser for a different local organization. This Saturday is for Community Speaks Out. Plan on join us for a Saturday night cruise!

Our schedule continues to be Monday-Friday, one trip daily at 7am. Saturdays and Sundays we head out at 6am and 1pm. We are currently booking private charters for August, so contact us soon to get your group on the calendar. As always, check our website and Facebook page for updates and information. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

Capt. Greg from the Black Hawk says, “I know everybody is calling and is anxious to go diamond jigging for the bluefish and bass, and we are certainly anxious to go! The unfortunate truth of this matter is that there are very few bluefish in not only our immediate area, but in a 150 mile area around us. Granted, there have been a handful caught, we’re catching a few while we’re seabass and porgy fishing, but there simply is not enough of a body of fish to justify a full fledged trip on ’em. Hopefully, this will change soon. Being in the business for as long as I have been, I’ve seen years in the past where the bluefish simply don’t come into our area. Its not common and it certainly is aggravating.”

He continues, “Because of this lack of bluefish, we’ve been making the run over to the seabass, porgy and fluke grounds. Trust me, I’m not a fan of a 1/2 day trip to Montauk, but as always, we will take our customers to where the best fishing is, in spite of fuel, bait, and time restraints. We are adjusting our schedule accordingly and are currently looking a weekend trips on a week by week basis.”

The week showed continued excellent porgy and seabass fishing, with customers easily getting limits of porgies, with a good number of seabass mixed in as well. Some nice fluke this week, too, rounding out the coolers and making for some happy fishermen and women.

Capt. Matt is back at the night bass trips this week, so stay tuned for more reports. We’ll be posting the dates soon for our “High Stakes” big bass night trip, so be sure to keep an eye out.

Heather from the office reports another successful Sailfest Fireworks trip. We had beautiful weather, and a great group of customers who brought us tons of diapers for our annual diaper drive. We’re looking forward to our trip next week for our annual “Christmas in July” trip as part of Celebrate East Lyme Day, and our upcoming Cruisin’ for a Cause sunset cruises as well.

As Capt. Greg mentioned, we’re keeping our schedule flexible right now as we’re trying to set up trips to provide the best fishing experience for our customers. Weekdays will continue to head out at 7am, but give us a call or check online for our weekend schedule, as it is subject to change due to the fishing conditions.

We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

July 8, 2018

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another week of excellent porgy fishing. Customers of all ages are easily getting their limits of jumbo Black Hawk scup. A good mix of seabass, and even some fluke are filling up the coolers and putting smiles of the faces of everyone. Friday’s forecast wasn’t promising, but the weather held off until we were heading in from another fantastic trip, allowing us to get a great trip in for the die hard anglers who showed up to fish.

Capt. Matt had an excellent bass trip last Sunday night, with big fish in the 30-40 pound range. They even had a monster pool winning fish near 50 pounds! We’ll be posting some more trips soon, so stay tuned, as they will fill up fast.

Our weekend half day trips have started, sailing at 6am and 1pm. These trips are scheduled to be for blues and bass, but the bluefish remain elusive, so we’ve been porgy fishing on these trips instead. As always, we want to provide the best experience for our customers, and if that means changing up the schedule or target species, then that’s what we’ll do. We’re hoping the bluefish arrive soon, as we know there are many people looking forward to these trips!

Heather from the office reports that starting this weekend, we will be sailing two trips on Saturdays and Sundays, at 6:00 am and 1:00 pm. Weekdays we will continue to go out at 7:00 am. Tickets are available to purchase in advance on our website. As always, stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for schedule updates and details about trips. A few dates left near the end of July for private charters, so grab ’em before they’re done. This Saturday the 14th we have our Sailfest fireworks cruise, next Saturday the 21st is our Christmas in July- Cerebrate East Lyme day fireworks, and then a Cruisin’ for a Cause fundraiser for Community Speaks Out the 28th. Spaces are filling quickly for all of these trips, so be sure to call the office to get a spot on board. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

July 1, 2018

“Rods are bending non-stop as jumbo porgies, slammer sea bass, and a mix of a few fluke, bluefish and even a handful of mackerel come over the rails”, reports Heather from the Black Hawk. Captains Greg and Seth are at the helm of these 7:00 AM, all day trips with customers leaving for home with full coolers and smiling faces. “Just can’t get any better, reports Capt. Greg. “Drop it to the bottom and you’ve got ’em!” If you’re looking to show the family, kids, or grandkids a great fishing experience, now’s the time! Just an absolutely enormous bio-mass of fish; simply astounding!

On the striped bass scene, Capt. Matt is crushing em’ on the night trips. We fished Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights this week, with another one going out tonight, Sunday. Full boat limits every night, with a lot of fish pushing well over 40 lbs. Saturday night showed some big fish- special congrats to 12 year old Ethan, who caught a 41 1/2 pound bass- and reeled it in himself! Great job Ethan!. Striped bass fishing at its finest! Like our longtime motto says “We Catch Em’……Ask Around.” Come see for yourself. These specialty trips feature a limited amount of anglers and are by reservation only. They book up fast, so don’t get left out.

Locally, the bluefish still remain elusive; a few scattered here and there, but no amount to really work on. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed that this improves soon as we’ve got plenty of customers waiting!

Heather from the office reports that starting this weekend, we will be sailing two trips on Saturdays and Sundays, at 6:00 am and 1:00 pm. Weekdays we will continue to go out at 7:00 am. Tickets are available to purchase in advance on our website. Our July charter schedule is just about full, but there are a few dates left, so contact us to get your group on the calendar. We have our fireworks cruises coming up in July, and then on Saturday evenings for the rest of the summer we will have our “Cruisin’ for a Cause” sunset cruises, with each week raising funds for a different organization. These are sure to be a great time, so plan on joining us this summer! There’s so much going on, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 24, 2018

Capt. Greg from the Black Hawk says that every week we say the porgy fishing has been excellent, and every week when it seems to be impossible, it just keeps getting better. Jumbo  Black Hawk porgies, at times double headers, coming over the rails all around the boat.  Now with the opening of sea bass in New York waters this past Saturday, it’s going to get even better.  We’ll be adding some jumbo knuckleheads to the coolers.  In addition, some nice fluke were caught this week, with a handful of bluefish too.

Sunday, Capt. Matt had the boat and reported that the porgies bit so ferociously that there were more double headers than single fish!  They easily had their limit for a full boatload of customers, then went and topped off the trip with some nice big seabass.  Keeping the customers happy is the name of the game, and everyone was happy on Sunday.

Capt. Matt reports that the night striped bass trips have been productive, although this week we didn’t see the heavy weights like we did last week.  We had fish to about 25 pounds.  We have three more night trips going out this week, on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Get your spots soon before they fill up!

We’re also excited to announce that the Black Hawk now as Sirius Satellite Radio on board the boat with all stations available!  We won’t miss any football or baseball games this fall!

Heather from the office reports that we are sailing 7 days a week at 7:00 am.  Tickets are available to purchase in advance on our website.  In July our weekend schedule will change slightly, so check the website or give us a call before heading down. We have a few dates available for July charters, but they’re going fast, so be sure to contact us to get your group on the calendar.  Saturday evenings this summer we will have our “Cruisin’ for a Cause” sunset cruises, with each week raising funds for a different organization.  These are sure to be a great time, so plan on joining us this summer!  There’s so much going on, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 17, 2018

“Simply put, it just can’t get any better; almost too good,” reports Capt. Greg Dubrule of the Black Hawk. A week of fantastic porgy fishing and excellent weather. Thursday’s charter was the only exception where the fishing was hot but we had a westerly wind in the afternoon, which made it a little nautical on the way home for a little while. The porgies are jumbo, with a small mix of fluke, bluefish, striped bass and a lot of big sea bass, which were returned unharmed. (sea bass in NY opens June 27)

Father’s Day weekend was no exception to the recent weather and fishing. Flat-calm weather, a full boat load of eager fishermen and fantastic fishing with limits all around. That’s over 2,000 jumbo porgies! Now that’s a lot of fish!

The night striped bass trips we had this week were all very good. Capt. Matt’s running them with a combination of live eels and buck-tails. Reservations are needed these trips and are limited to 20 anglers. We will be posting more trips soon. These fill up fast- sometimes within a few hours- so be sure to sign up as soon as you see them.

From the office, Heather reports that we are now fishing every day at 7am. Tickets are available to purchase in advance on our website, or you can always get them at the dock. We have our After Work Specials going out, as well as night bass trips. We’re looking forward to great trips with the friends of Scotland Elementary School, Ray of Light Farm, UCFS Healthcare, and more! These are sure to be a great time, so plan on joining us this summer! There’s so much going on, and we look forward to seeing everyone soon!

June 10, 2018

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports the spring porgy run in the Greenport/Gardiner’s Bay area has slowed as the fish make their way to the summer feeding grounds at Montauk Point.  Capts Matt, Greg and Seth report excellent porgy fishing throughout the week at Montauk with jumbo Black Hawk scup to over 3 pounds, with a mix of bluefish, fluke, and even a few striped bass.  Limits of porgies were easily obtained with flurries of double headers flying over the rails.  A lot of seabass, some over 5 pounds, are also being caught, but with the NY seabass season still closed (it opens June 27) they were released unharmed.

Capt. Matt has been running the night bass trips with excellent results.  Bass of all sizes to 45 pounds have been climbing on the “striper snax” bucktails.  As our bass clientele know, we have some outrageous big fish pools each night on the Black Hawk, with winning monies in the hundreds.  You’ve asked for it, and it’s coming soon…we’re going to be putting together a “High Stakes Bass Night” with $1,000 for the biggest of the night, and a 2nd place prize close to it.  Be on the lookout for the date on our website and Facebook.   It will be a fun night with a full boat (limited to 20 anglers) of serious bass fishermen.

On a side note, there seems to be a little friendly rivalry brewing between CJ and the night bass crew (including Capt Matt) and Capt Greg and the day time porgy crew.  Which fishery is the best, which crew is the best, etc.  Check it out on Facebook – totally unscripted and at times intellectually stimulating.  Which is best- you decide.  But the end result is always the same…we catch ’em….ask around.

By popular request, our “Talkin’ Tackle” series is back.  Call, email, or Facebook your fishing/boating questions and we’ll do our best to answer them in one of our videos.  Our goal is to help and make you better!

From the office, Heather reports that starting Saturday, June 16, we will be sailing 7 days a week at 7:00 am.  Tickets are available to purchase in advance on our website.  We have our After Work Specials going out on Thursday and Friday evenings at 4:00 pm, and will have more night bass trips posted soon.

June 3, 2018

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that it was a week of excellent porgy fishing. Nice weather, full boat limits, and a nice combo of weakfish, fluke, and a few bluefish. Beautiful spring fishing….

Then the weekend came. We’re not going to sugar coat it: wind and torrential rains engulfed the porgy grounds, affecting the fish and the bite tremendously. The heavy influx of fresh water definitely messes ’em up. Saturday was a tough grind but Capt Matt put in the overtime and everybody left with a bag full of fillets. Some people got their limits, some people struggled. Sunday was a lot tougher. We put in some moves and burned some fuel to get on the fish and managed to pick away. While it was by no means the bail job we have had, we were able to produce a decent catch of jumbo porgies, a bunch of weakfish, and even a few fluke.

We had two night striped bass trips last week- look below for some photos. The striped bass fishing remains very good. We’re expecting it to steadily improve in June. We’re going to be doing 2 night trips this week, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Don’t forget, these trips are based on the the tide, so the sailing times are always different. The trips are by reservation only.

Some schedule updates from the office: There is no open trip on Saturday, June 9. Starting on June 16, we will be sailing 7 days a week at 7am. Prior to that date, check our website for specific dates. We are currently booking charters for late June, July and August, but dates are filling up fast, so be sure to contact us to get your date on the calendar before we’re filled up.

We are very excited about our new community program this year, Cruisin’ for a Cause. Join us on Saturday nights for some sunset cruises, each one raising funds for a different non-profit organization. More information will be posted online soon, so be sure to check it out. We are honored to be able to help these local groups, so be sure to come out and support them. As always, check our website for details and updates about trips, schedules, reports and more. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

May 27, 2018

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports another great week of porgy fishing. Limits, or close to them, on just about every trip of the week. Saturday’s trip showed absolutely beautiful weather, an excited group of anglers, and simply excellent fishing. Limits of porgies with some fluke mixed in as well. We’re looking forward to some more great trips in the coming weeks.

Our night bluefishing trip on Saturday night was great- you couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather- warm, and flat calm. We started off diamond jigging before the sun went down, and had a bunch of striped bass. Then we anchored up and had a good pick on the bluefish for the rest of the night. A good time was had by all.

We’re looking forward to our night striped bass trips on Tuesday and Wednesday nights. As of this report, there are a few spots left, so go online to grab one before they’re sold out.

May 20, 2018

“Another week of excellent porgy fishing,” reports Capt. Matt from the BlackHawk. Wednesday turned out to be the hottest trip of the week, with a “BlackHawk Blitz” for over an hour. Fish coming over the rails as fast as you could get em’ down on the bottom! Coolers filled up fast, with full limits for everyone on board and we were on our way home early. This past weekend, trips showed us miserable weather with wind and rain but a steady pick throughout. More fish seem to be moving in all the time, with a lot more bluefish shagging bait everywhere.
Capt. Greg had the honors on the first Friday night bluefish/bass trip. Weather certainly wasn’t the best; a stiff, northeast bone-chilling wind for most of the trip. Fortunately, since we were fishing up in the Greenport area, which offers a lot of protection, even with the wind, sea conditions were calm. We tried a few spots on the way up, which only produced a bluefish or two before landing on a good pile of bass and blues.
We “Blackhawked” em’ for over an hour, with everyone getting a bunch; with several nice keeper bass to 34”, with a lot of shorts in the mix. We eventually anchored up with the bait; had to move once, and ended up with a delicate pick for the remainder of the trip. We’ll again be night fishing this Saturday and Sunday of the Memorial Day holiday weekend, leaving at 5:00 pm. As more bluefish are coming all the time, these promise to be action packed trips. Spots are limited, so book yours now !

Heather from the office reports that there are only a few days open for charters in May and June, so if you want to plan a trip, contact us soon to get it on the calendar. There’s also only a few days open for our new fundraisers, Cruisin’ for a Cause. We’re looking forward to helping so many community groups this summer. Be sure to grab your date soon, these last few dates will likely be gone within the next week. As always, check our website for details and updates about trips, schedules, reports and more. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!

May 13, 2018

THE PORGIES ARE IN! Capt. Matt from the Black Hawk reports that it was a week of excellent porgy fishing. Friday’s trip was the highlight, with a boat load of regulars who came armed with braid line, sharp hooks, and empty coolers. They loaded everything up with with their limits. There’s been a few weakfish caught this week, a few fluke, and even some bluefish. And by the way, the bluefish are going to be here thick this week. In the Shinnecock area now they’re loaded up and they’re all coming our way! There’s so much bunker in the Greenport area, which is unprecedented, and it’s gonna be a slaughter once the bluefish bump into them. They’re right on schedule for our night bluefish trip this Friday night, leaving at 5pm and getting in around midnight. There could be some striped bass or weakfish in the mix too. It’s a great trip, fishing in the calm, protected waters of Peconic Bay. Come join us. Remember, don’t read the fishing reports…make ’em.

Heather from the office reports that there are only a few days open for charters in May and June, so if you want to plan a trip, contact us soon to get it on the calendar.
