Capt. Greg from the Black Hawk reports that last Sunday’s trip was very good for bottom fishing- lots of porgies and jumbo seabass. The fishing this fall has been very consistent. Of course, this time of year it’s a weather situation, so don’t forget to check the weather before you head down for your trip. Tuesday’s special trip was superb– a beautiful day of fishing. Coolers full of porgies and seabass, with a few codfish mixed in there as well. Friday’s trip was a little nautical- with the heavy northwest winds, we were prevented from going where we wanted to go- so we stayed inside. We picked away at the porgies and seabass, but it was nothing like the fishing in the Montauk or Block Island areas. Had a few codfish here and there too. A totally different story on Saturday. Flat calm, bright sunshine- we couldn’t have asked for anything better. Big, big seabass, in the 5-6 pound rage, with hubcap porgies and some nice codfish too. The pool winner was an 18 pound codfish. Everyone went home happy with full coolers. Probably the best day so far of the fall fishing season. Again, what an unbelievable difference a day can make. In direct contrast to Saturday’s beautiful day, Sunday arrived with a stiff southwesterly gale. We still went- and the fishing was certainly as good as Saturday, but not everybody could catch ’em. Plenty of big seabass, plenty of big porgies, but it was a little nautical. Again, we remind people to check the forecast before heading out- not just the sun and the temperature, but the wind as well. You can always call the boat office and we’ll give you an update on the latest conditions we’ve heard.
Heather from the office reminds everyone that our schedule is now Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, one trip each day, leaving at 7:00 am. We still have some semi-private charters coming up, and a few specialty trips coming up as well, so stay tuned to our website and Facebook page for more info on those. As always, give the office a call if you have any questions or want the most up to date fishing or weather report. We’re also still collecting items for our Black Hawk and the Community program- we’re hoping to help make Thanksgiving a bit easier for some local families and are collecting food items- especially needed are stuffing mix, canned vegetables, and bread/roll mixes. Thanks for helping!
