fishing reports

Fishing during the week was excellent aboard the Black Hawk, reports Capt. Greg. Wednesday was nothing short of spectacular. The weather was gorgeous; flat calm all day, and the fishing couldn’t get any better. All the porgies you could possibly ask for, big jumbo seabass, and a good scattering of codfish. We even had a few blackfish and a handful of bluefish come over the rails and into the coolers.

Thursday and Friday, unfortunately, we couldn’t fish due to the weather. On Saturday, despite brisk northeast winds, we went back to the scene of the crime in the lee of Block Island. The weather was nice but it was just a pick for the first couple hours. We finally moved outside when the wind dropped out and it was a one drop spot. Anchored up, stayed there the whole afternoon, and again, had excellent fishing. Plenty of porgies and seabass with a good mix of cod, a few blackfish and a few bluefish mixed in. Handful of dogfish mixed it, but they certainly weren’t a problem. Sunday’s trip was very, very good, with a lot more codfish coming over the rails- over half a hundred keeper codfish, with fish up to 19 pounds.

Our schedule is now Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, one trip each day, leaving at 6:00 am. These trips are reservation only and limited to 30 people, so you’ll need to call the office to get a spot on board. When the weather is good, we also plan on doing some weekday trips- this week we’ll be heading out on Tuesday and Wednesday. All of our trips from now on are by reservation only, so be sure to call the office to grab a spot. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as your email, for our special coming up this weekend for Small Business Saturday. You won’t want to miss it! On behalf of Capt. Greg and the entire Black Hawk crew, we’d like to wish everyone a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
