Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we had another great week of fishing. The porgy and seabass fishing out at Block Island keeps getting better and better. Limits all around of jumbo porgies and giant sea bass. Wednesday was a highlight of the week, with an epic day of huge sea bass, monster porgies, and even a mako shark! You may have seen the video on our Facebook page- it put on quite the aerial show, jumping out of the water several times before it was released unharmed. We had private charters on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s trip wanted bluefish, and despite the wind we still loaded up. The conditions were definitely not in our favor but that didn’t stop our group of diehards! We had a bunch of short striped bass and a few keeper sea bass mixed in as well. Saturday’s trip wanted to bottom fish, and they got ’em- an excellent day of fishing meant everyone left with bags of fillets.
Our night bass trips last week were a mix of good and not so good. As with all of our trips, we don’t sugar coat our fishing reports. Although our night bass trips on Saturday and Sunday were very successful with fish to 35lbs last night’s trip was a bust. Anyone who fishes Montauk on the flood tide with an east wind can tell you it creates tough drifting conditions and poor results. Unfortunately, Monday night had all of these. We only had one short bass caught with a handful of bites and a few that popped off on the way up. We hope for better results and conditions on our upcoming trips.
As always, at this time of year, it’s a good idea to give us a call the day before your trip to check on weather conditions. We plan on sailing daily, but there may be days when we are not sailing based on weather- Mother Nature can be a tough partner! You can also always check our website and Facebook page for updates.
