Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that we got out two days last week, Wednesday and Friday. Wednesday was a slow grind. We had some excellent weather with flat calm seas however the fish did not want to cooperate. We marked plenty of fish and bait on the machines but they just didn’t want to chew. We did have a nice shot of pollock mixed in with the cod, and we picked away on them and put some fish onboard but it never materialized into the bite we were looking for. Friday was a little better. Once again, we had some beautiful weather for late January! We got there nice and early with fresh clams and used the freshly shucked shells for chum. We were bombarded with short fish, but still had a decent pick throughout the morning, until the wind and tide changed. Then, the fish stopped chewing. We did have some nice pollock and ling in the mix, as well. Like the other boats, we are waiting for some improvement and hoping for that big hit of keeper cod. As fun as the short fish are to catch, we are held to a 21″ size limit, and short fish just don’t make it to the cooler.

We plan on fishing again this week, Wednesday and Friday, and will add more trips for the weekends if the weather allows. As always, check our website and Facebook page for updates and more info. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
