Heather from the Black Hawk reports that last week on Tuesday and Wednesday we started off fishing in some local waters as we had some wind to contend with and couldn’t make it out to Block Island. That being said, the sea bass fishing was flat out fantastic with an easy boat limit of nice size fish. After loading up on the sea bass we switched over to blackfish. It took a little while to get them to start chewing but after picking through a few shorts the keepers started coming over the rails for a boat limit of blackfish as well.

By the end of the week, we were able to get back out to Block Island and had excellent weather and fishing, with boat limits of jumbo porgies and sea bass. Friday’s trip had some nice cod in the mix as well, up to 18 pounds! Saturday’s trip was a highlight of the week, with limits of jumbo seabass coming over the rails. Jumbo porgies, a few blackfish, triggerfish and cod filled out the mix. making for a great day on the water.

Unfortunately, we lost Sunday’s trip due to the weather, but we’re looking forward to getting back out there this week. This is our last week of open trips, as starting November 4, all trips are by reservation only. As always, check our website and Facebook page for updates. Join us soon!

Heather from the Black Hawk office reports that things picked up last Monday after the storm. We had a few days of good fishing before the next storm came in and kept us tied up for a few days. Tuesday’s trip was the highlight of the week- we had a private charter who wanted to go for some bluefish, and what a day we had! Loads of blues, a few stripers, and seabass too. Definitely the highlight of the week. We were able to get Wednesday’s trip in before the conditions started to deteriorate, with the winds picking up as the day went on.

Like everyone else, we stayed at the dock on Thursday and Friday, before returning to the grounds on Saturday. It was a bit of a tough trip- we found some piles of fish, but everyone had to work at it. Those who fished hard went home with solid catch of fish. Nothing like before the storms, but not bad for the first day back. It should get better and better as things calm down after the high winds.

We plan on fishing daily through October- check our website for updates, as there are a few days when we have private charters and aren’t available for open trips. At this time of year, it’s always a good idea to call the day before your trip as well, to check on weather conditions and updates. We’ll continue to fish in November as well, and our schedule will be posted soon, so stay tuned. All trips starting November 1 are very weather-dependent and by reservation only. As always, check our website and Facebook page for updates and details.

Heather from the Black Hawk says it’s a short report this week! We lost all week due to the strong winds and rough seas. As of this writing (Sunday afternoon) the boat is still out on our first trip after the storm. We never know exactly what it will be like after a storm like that- fish can move around, the water gets all churned up, and we just never know what to expect. Check our Facebook page for updates once the boat gets in.

We’re planning on fishing most days- but, as we learned this past week, Mother Nature can be tough- so please give us a call the day before your trip for updates. As always, check our website and Facebook page for updates as well. We look forward to seeing everyone soon!
