fishing reports

Captain Matt reports an excellent week of both weather and fishing aboard the Black Hawk. Friday’s trip was a one drop spot; we stayed there the whole day. Excellent load of sea bass, cod with a good mix of porgies. The weather for Saturday’s trip was next to perfect. Beautiful October type weather, only in December- not quite short sleeve weather, but close. A lot more codfish in the first few hours. We left them biting to find more sea bass and it didn’t take long. Anchored up on a pile of them and stayed there the rest of the day. Porgies and cod were also caught, but sea bass was the main stay. Sunday was another great weather day, but with a slight westerly wind. Once again, we started off predominantly on the codfish, and like Saturday, eventually ended up on the sea bass and scup. There were a few blackfish mixed in on all of the trips and no dogfish on any days, which made the fishing even easier. Pool fish were codfish every day in the 18 to 24 pound range. Customers left tired and arm weary but with smiles on their faces and full coolers. It just can’t get any better for this time of year….great weather with fantastic fishing.

Heather from the office reminds everyone that we’ll plan on fishing steadily, weather permitting, right up to Christmas. These are all limited trips by reservation only, so plan accordingly and call early, as the trips are filling up. We also plan on going out on some specialty cod fish trips after the first of the year, so stay tuned to your email for dates and reservation information. It doesn’t take long to fill them up! With the fishing and weather this good, it’s a real bonus for this time of year.

Don’t forget, Black Hawk gift certificates are available now. Give a fishing trip or two to your family and friends for Christmas, and come see why the Black Hawk was voted the most popular party boat in Connecticut for 2015. Remember to follow us on Facebook and Twitter for up to the minute information and details on upcoming trips.
